The 7th Annual WALK! with Aegis Therapies Gets Seniors Moving with Largest Registered Community Event Participation.

Plano, TEXAS – The 7th annual WALK! with Aegis Therapies event held during Active Aging Week, Sept. 27 Oct. 3, reached more seniors than the previous year with 795 registered locations and communities across the nation including independent living facilities, assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, skilled nursing facilities and other locations as well as the public and community groups who registered on their own at walkwithaegis.com.

This years event touched more than 44,000 participants. WALK! with Aegis Therapies participants, included individual and community groups who registered and walked a combined total of 66,000 miles. The miles are calculated based on the physical activity that participants can do including walking, dancing, tapping toes, waving arms in the air and lifting their legs. Each days events highlighted one of the dimensions of wellness physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, occupational, environmental and social.

To motivate participants to get active, Chris Freytag, a well-known fitness expert, kicked off events in Springfield, Mo. and Minneapolis. Leading and motivating participants with music, movement and pom-poms, Chris went to three events and interacted with more than 250 participants.

Golden Livings Executive Chef and Director of Dining Services, Darin Leonardson, joined the WALK! with Aegis Therapies team cooking up a healthy snack and antioxidant smoothie after event activities and talking about making healthy food choices. He traveled across the nation to three locations from Georgia to Pennsylvania motivating more than 300 participants.

The WALK! with Aegis Therapies 2015 is presented by the EnerG by Aegis wellness program in support of the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and Active Aging Week, which is celebrated each year during the last week of September. The WALK! with Aegis Therapies was highlighted on the second day of Active Aging Week on the ICAA schedule of activities and marketing campaign.
