September 19, 2018
The first day of the 2018 fall season has been designated as National Falls Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD) to help raise awareness about how to help prevent fall-related injuries in older adults. This important day helps us remember to educate about the impact of falls and remember to use and share the available strategies we have available for fall prevention.
There are many wonderful resources available to help with education and programming to help increase overall safety, and Aegis Therapies is pleased to share the following information in recognition of FPAD.
- Visit the National Council on Aging’s FPAD page to learn more about several events taking place in September focused on FPAD, including a Facebook Live event, Twitter chat and https://www.ncoa.org/healthy-aging/falls-prevention/falls-prevention-awareness-day/
- The American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (AOTA) has a Falls Prevention Toolkit including a how-to guide, PowerPoint presentations, scripts, handouts and a flyer to help you prepare and deliver a Falls Prevention presentation. https://www.aota.org/fallsday
- The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) has posted multiple educational resources on their FPAD page including continuing education and related resources links. http://www.apta.org/BalanceFalls/
However you plan to celebrate, Aegis encourages everyone to take a moment as we enjoy the fall weather to think about fall prevention.
