Understanding Cognitive Impairments: Dementia 101
March 19 – 12:00 p.m. Central time
Session one will address the general overview of Dementia and the most common diagnostic conditions that present with impairments to cognition. We will introduce the stages of cognitive impairment often seen in long term care settings.

Stages of Cognitive Impairments and Patient Characteristics
April 9 – 12:00 p.m. Central time
Session two will provide next level details of the stages of cognitive decline including Mild Cognitive Impairment, Early, Middle, Late and Advanced Dementia. Focus will be on specific patient characteristics to identify patient needs and guide staff in effective patient driven care. This guidance is based on the patient’s strengths and will provide your interdisciplinary team with greater understanding of the need for patient driven care planning that matches their unique needs for patients living with cognitive decline.

Patient Centered Care Strategies for Those Living with Dementia
May 7 – 12:00 p.m. Central time
Session three will further refine the care strategies to address resident needs from skilled rehab to effective engagement in appropriate activities, including interactions with others and their environment. As in session two, attendees will learn how to use strengths of the patient who presents with a cognitive decline to remain engaged and empowered as active participants in their own care. This session will also provide overview strategies to address behaviors that may be present in patients living with cognitive decline.

Patient Case Scenarios: Tying It All Together – Enhancing Quality of Life
June 11 – 12:00 p.m. Central time
Session four will wrap up our series with highlights including: best practices, case scenario’s and problem-oriented solutions to address challenges to effective care for patients living with cognitive decline. We will be encouraging you to share both best practices and barriers to the challenges your staff face in this care delivery area.
