This educational panel discussion is great for therapists, therapy assistants, or students who want to learn about clinically appropriate evidenced-based physical, occupational and speech therapy standardized assessments and interventions for the higher-functioning older adult population. You will learn to identify the characteristics of caregiver burnout, understand a caregiver’s health literacy and recognize the role of therapists in educating caregivers about the disease process. You will also be able to implement interventions and action steps to support caregivers based on the care setting and accurately bill and document caregiver education.

Presented by:
Alka Mehra, OTR, CLT, earned her Occupational Therapy Degree in 1986 from Delhi, India. She has practiced in various settings, including hospitals, acute rehabilitation, home care, and outpatient services. Since 1995, she has specialized in sub-acute/TCU/long-term care. Alka has been a Clinical Specialist for Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota with Aegis Therapies since September 2013. She is certified in lymphedema management and provides patient care in multiple facilities. Additionally, she conducts continuing education courses in dementia/cognitive management, fall prevention/balance management, mental health management, geriatric strength training, and complex disease management. She is an active member of AOTA, MOTA, and WOTA. Alka is a salaried employee of Aegis Therapies and has no other relevant financial or non-financial relationships to disclose.
Kylie Aufderheide, PT, DPT, is a Regional Clinical Director with Aegis Therapies. She obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 2013. Mrs. Aufderheide completed a postgraduate Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency through Creighton University and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. She is a Board-Certified Neurologic Specialist in Physical Therapy through ABPTS. Mrs. Aufderheide is a member of APTA and is involved in the Neurology Section and the Minnesota Chapter.
